In a fast-changing global environment, it is critical that the competitiveness of the South African mining industry be strengthened. As such, Firejuice is delighted to have been appointed to assist the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) as it repositions itself to better serve its markets.
This will begin in early 2021, with the introduction by the SAIMM of its modernised value proposition, made up of six main thrusts. Tellingly, these main thrusts emphasise professional development – rooted in the Institute’s focus on helping SA to demonstrate excellence and its leadership role in mining through the ongoing development of engineers.
At its core, the SAIMM is a professional institute with local and global links aimed at assisting members to source information about technological developments in the mining, metallurgical, and related sectors.
Already 125 years old, it is committed to fulfilling its obligations to the various communities and the environment, as well as bringing together the mining and metallurgical fraternity in terms of research, shared-experiences, education, personnel, and students.
Says Vaughn Duke, CEO of mining consultancy Sound Mining and current president of the SAIMM, “South Africa has always been a mining powerhouse. Having a dedicated body that provides relevant services to help the industry grow is a key ingredient in its future growth and sustainability.”
Bernard Jansen, founder and principal consultant at Firejuice, says, “Over the years we’ve successfully worked with a number of businesses in mining, and we are excited to now have the chance to work with the body that represents the entire sector.”
